Art, to me, is very much about the pleasure of creation; realising something that wasn’t there before. It’s a basic and fundamental urge that goes way way back. I recently watched Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams, and it was almost comically liberating to see that in the course of 30,000 years humankind has never substantially swerved or improved on its desire to depict the world. It is good, if humbling, to be in that tradition.
